Smooth Maneuvers, or Smooth Events, are positive Acceleration, Braking and Cornering driving behaviors, such as gradual, gentle stopping and turning.
During your Trip, Mentor identifies the number of opportunities to demonstrate Smooth driving behavior and compares that to the number of times Smooth driving behaviors were displayed. A trip with a higher number of Smooth opportunities taken will score a higher FICO® Safe Driving Score.
Smooth Maneuvers include:
- Smooth Start: A Smooth Start is the opposite of Harsh Acceleration. Mentor measures gradual acceleration from a stationary position up to speed and determines if the driver is always below a safe g-force threshold.
- Smooth Stop: Like Smooth Start, Smooth Stopping is safe and gradual deceleration to a stop that is consistently below a safe g-force.
- Smooth Turn: Like Smooth Start and Smooth Stop, Smooth Turning is the opposite of Harsh Cornering and is also g-force threshold based. Mentor identifies that the driver has made a turn from one road to another, ignoring bends/curves on the same road. Then the g-force of that turn is measured and, if below the safe threshold for the whole turn, a Smooth Turn will be registered.
A FICO® Safe Driving Score at or above 710 represent Low and Very Low Risk ratings. Drivers at these levels are 30% less likely to be involved in a future collision as compared to drivers who maintain Medium, High or Very High Risk scores.
