A device with cellular capabilities manufactured in the past 2 years should be Mentor-compatible, although not all devices have the full hardware for Mentor to run properly.
Additionally, the following settings are required for Mentor to detect trip start / stop effectively:
iOS:
- Location Services must be turned on. Settings —> Privacy —> Location Services. (Used for capturing driving data and trip information.)
- App permissions must also be enabled. Settings —> Permissions. (Allows the app permission to access location and motion data from your phone.)
- Motion and Fitness must be on, and Location must be set to Always. Settings —> Mentor. (Determines movement type, such as walking or driving, and detects the start and end of trips more efficiently without using high-frequency location data, thus saving battery life.)
Android:
- Location must be turned on in settings. (Used for capturing driving data and trip information.)
- Physical Activity access must be set to Always. (Determines movement type, such as walking or driving, and detects the start and end of trips more efficiently without using high-frequency location data, thus saving battery life.)
- App permissions must also be enabled. Settings —> Permissions. (Allows the app permission to access location and motion data from your phone.)
- Battery Saver mode must be disabled. (Gives continued access to location and fitness settings.)
For the best results, a charger and cradle are highly recommended for your device while driving.
