Once you are signed into the app, the first screen you interact with is the Mentor Dashboard. This shows an overview of your driving behaviors and access various features within the app.
- Trips, Miles / KM, Hours: View your total trips taken, Miles / KM driven, and Hours traveled.
- FICO® Safe Driving Score: View your FICO Safe Driving Score individually (your rolling Seven-day average driving score), as well as how you rank in comparison to your organization, your Team, and the top 10% of drivers in your company.
- Behavior Ribbon: See insight into your EcoDrive rating and your Acceleration, Braking, Cornering, Distraction, and Speeding ratings.
- Vehicle Inspection*: Tap to complete a Driver Vehicle Inspection Report.
- Last Trip: Tap to see your last Trip rating as well as Trip information and logged driving events.
- My Playlist: View your Playlist items.
- Rewards*: See your current points accumulated.
- Circles*: Connect with other drivers and share safe driving accountability.

Along the bottom of the Dashboard, there are options for the following:
- Dashboard: Provides a snapshot of your driving data, Playlist items, Circles, and more.
- Trips: Displays specific trip details with individual driving behaviors labeled for each trip.
- Playlist: Shows your new and completed training modules.
- Trends: Gives you an overview of your driving performance over time.
- More: Allows you to adjust your profile and app settings and connects you to support and FAQ documents.
Trips, Miles / KM, Hours
The very first element of the Dashboard is the total trips taken, total miles / KM driven, and total hours traveled since you first logged into the application.
Tap each icon to see a breakdown of each category. This screen will provide detailed information about your monthly, weekly, and daily miles driven based on the tab selected (Driver, Personal, or Passenger) and the time frame selected (Monthly, Weekly, or Daily). You can also use this to report Mileage, if applicable.
FICO® Safe Driving Score
The next section of the Dashboard is the FICO Safe Driving Score. This is where you can see your individual FICO Safe Driving Score compared to your organization, team, and the Top 10%.
You can tap on the graph for detailed information about your score.
The FICO Safe Driving Score is the weighted average of your scored trips with a star rating from the most recent seven calendar days.
It is a rolling seven-day score so each day any trips that are no longer in that seven-day window are removed and the new day’s trips are added.
This is a score based on the driver’s measured driving behaviors, including all events captured during the trip – smooth and harsh events.
During each trip that you take, the goal is to demonstrate smooth, safe driving behaviors. Each trip is weighted based on specific criteria: the distance and duration of each trip and all driving events captured, including the quantity, intensity, and duration of each event. In addition, the number of times you demonstrated negative driving behaviors is compared to the number of opportunities you had to make safe driving decisions.
FICO Safe Driving Score:
A FICO Safe Driving Score at or above 710 represents Low- and Very Low-Risk ratings. Drivers at these levels are 30% less likely to be involved in a future collision as compared to drivers who maintain Medium-, High-, or Very High-Risk scores.

EcoDrive
EcoDrive was designed to help drivers minimize CO2 emissions and EV battery consumption. This is represented in the application by the ECO icon.
Tapping on the ECO icon from the Behavior Ribbon shows how your driving impacts the environment. Remember, defensive driving IS eco-driving. Smooth and steady driving maneuvers that are free from speeding or distractions reduce wasted fuel and EV battery charge and help to improve your EcoDrive rating as well as your FICO Safe Driving Score.
Trip-Based Settings
The Mentor app automatically detects vehicle movement and begins to capture a trip. Trips are scored if the drive lasts more than 4 minutes and is at least 0.3 miles in length. For more information on how Mentor captures trips, visit the Trips section.

Behavior Ribbon
The Behavior Ribbon is the next section within the application Dashboard.
Mentor was designed to look for patterns of safe and unsafe driving behaviors across five categories – Acceleration, Braking, Cornering, Distraction, and Speeding.
Much like the FICO Safe Driving Score, the rating behind each of the behaviors is a seven-day rolling score. The ratings available are highlighted Green, Yellow, or Red – Green is Low Risk, Yellow is Medium Risk, and Red is High Risk.

ABC — Acceleration, Braking, and Cornering
Acceleration, Braking, and Cornering events are measured using your device’s sensors to determine if they are Smooth, Neutral, or Harsh. If an event is not considered Smooth or Harsh, it is a Neutral event.

D — Distraction
Device use of any kind at any time while driving is considered a harsh maneuver and is one of the most dangerous driving behaviors — even if you are stopped at a traffic light or using hands-free settings.
Studies show you are four times more likely to crash if you are using a device while driving, even if you are conducting a hands-free call. Any time your focus is taken from your drive, your collision risk increases. To keep yourself safe and to avoid negatively impacting your score with Distraction events, wait until your trip has ended before using your device.
Distraction events show in Mentor in two ways:
- Calls or messages – Incoming or outgoing and are detected by call and messaging data and location data. Calls and messages will be detected when a call is placed / sent or accepted / read using the keypad, Bluetooth, FaceTime, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Teams, Zoom, or any other application with call abilities.
- Device manipulations – These can be triggered by picking up, moving, or handling your device in any way, moving the device when unlocking or locking the screen, unplugging or plugging in a charger, texting, emailing, and interacting with social media, GPS, or other apps.

S — Speeding
Speeding is one of the main causes of collisions — and one of the main causes of death on the roads.
Speeding events are monitored using the following process:
- During the trip, Mentor collects location data and speed data every second.
- Based on location data, Mentor identifies the applicable speed limits with our mapping partners worldwide.
- Then, Mentor compares your speed with the speed limit at every second.
Mentor allows for temporary, minor fluctuations in speed that are primarily caused by changes in road conditions or the need for a short increase in speed, such as to pass a vehicle or avoid a dangerous situation. For Mentor to record a speeding event, the following criteria applies:
- If the posted speed limit is less than 40 mph or 65 km/h, a driver must exceed the speed limit by 20% or more for at least 60 seconds.
- If the posted speed limit is greater than or equal to 40 mph or 65 km/h, a driver must exceed the speed limit by 10 mph or 15 km/h or more for at least 60 seconds.
Speeding Dispute
If you feel that a speeding event was captured incorrectly, you can dispute the event.
Drivers can submit a speeding dispute through the Mentor application. Our team will validate the speed limit submission and update our database with the correct data, when applicable. To submit a dispute, follow the steps below:
1. Tap the Trips icon to view the Trip details page with the map and the events logged on your trip.
2. Tap on the Speeding event in question, then tap Feedback.
3. Then, tap Speeding Dispute.
4. Toggle On the Dispute This Event button.
5. Enter the observed posted speed limit and any additional comments.
6. Tap Submit Dispute.
Vehicle Inspections (DVIR / DVCR)
Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR)* or Driver Vehicle Condition Report (DVCR)* allows you to submit a vehicle inspection report to your employer at the beginning and end of your shift / day. Tap Begin Vehicle Inspection to input your vehicle information and report damage (signified by the Thumbs Down icon) or no damage (signified by the Thumbs Up icon). Tap the Question Mark button on the top right of the screen for a list of reportable damage and criteria for each category.
If you report damage during your inspection, you will be prompted to take photos that will be saved once you complete your inspection. Continue through the checklist and tap File Report to complete your DVIR.

Driver Event Reporting (DER)
Driver Event Reporting (DER)* allows you to submit a report immediately after a collision or incident occurs. DER allows you to report an event (collision, incident, or license violation) from within the Mentor app.
If an event occurs, tap the stars on the Trip Rating and select the Report An Event button that pops up on the screen.
Event Reporting allows you to go through each item on the checklist, including the category (collision / incident, license violation, or near miss) and type of event (collision / incident type or near miss or type of violation), purpose of your trip, description of what occurred, and additional information (such as date, time, location, direction of travel, speed, vehicle type, injuries, cause, road type, weather and road conditions, and more).

Playlist
Your Playlist responds to your real-time driving data, which means that each Playlist is as unique as each driver’s behaviors. If your FICO® Safe Driving Score is high risk, your Playlist will provide you with supplemental learning to help you reduce risky behaviors while reinforcing safe behaviors. You will also receive timely and actionable Notifications that respond to multiple triggers, such as risk-level changes, demonstration of defensive driving best practices, and more.
All drivers will go through an orientation period that introduces them to the app and highlights defensive driving best practices. After Orientation, drivers will receive Playlist assignments based on their FICO® Safe Driving Score and driving behaviors.
- High-Risk drivers will receive the most support, including more micro-learning modules and notifications each month to help reduce dangerous behaviors while reinforcing safer driving practices.
- Medium-Risk drivers will receive support through micro-learning modules and notifications to help adopt safer driving behaviors and to alert them if there are any changes to their collision risk.
- Low-Risk drivers can celebrate their continued accomplishments and will receive micro-learning modules and notifications when needed while they remain Low Risk.
Drivers can view their new and completed Playlist items by selecting the Playlist icon at the bottom of the Dashboard or by selecting the Playlist tile on the Dashboard page (located next to the Last Trip tile). Then choose the tab labeled New or Completed. Once you complete a module, it will be marked as Completed, however, you can retake completed Playlist items to brush up on your skills at any time.
