The FICO® Safe Driving Score combines several factors including length of trip, duration, negative events (such as Harsh Braking), and positive events or Smooth Maneuvers (such as gradual, gentle stopping, starting and turning). These Smooth Maneuvers include:
- Smooth Start: A Smooth Start is the opposite of Harsh Acceleration. Mentor measures gradual acceleration from a stationary position up to speed and determines if the driver is always below a safe g-force threshold.
- Smooth Stop: Like Smooth Start, Smooth Stopping is safe and gradual deceleration to a stop that is consistently below a certain g-force.
- Smooth Turn: Like Smooth Start and Smooth Stop, Smooth Turning is the opposite of Harsh Cornering and is also g-force threshold based. First, Mentor identifies that it’s a turn (from one road to the other) instead of a curve in the same road. Then it looks at the threshold to ensure a “Smooth” maneuver below a safe g-force threshold through the whole turn.
